My Favorite Vegetarian Restaurants in Salt Lake City

28 September 2010 By: Casey One Comment | Editor's Picks, featured

So you just met this hot guy at Coffee Garden. He has long dark hair, beautiful green eyes, and he’s just asked you on a date. The only trouble is **screeeeeetch**, he’s a vegetarian and you are in charge of picking a place for dinner tomorrow night! Don’t fret – I’ve got you covered!

Here’s my top 4 favorite vegetarian restaurants in Salt Lake City:

Sage’s Cafe

Sage’s Cafe is located on the border of downtown Salt Lake City and is easily one of my favorite restaurants and for the 8th year in a row, Sage’s has won City Weekly’s Best of Utah award for Best Vegetarian food. Not only is Sage’s an amazing vegetarian restaurant, but Sage’s Café has evolved into one of Salt Lake City’s finest destination restaurants and will please even the most picky of eaters. My personal favorite menu items include their Mushroom Stroganoff, Fresh Basil Pesto Pasta, and the 7-Grain Baguette French Toast! Don’t forget their Vegan Tiramisu!!! Sage’s Cafe is located on 473 east 300 s (Broadway) in downtown Salt Lake City. For more information, see Sage’s Cafe on Ski Town Restaurants.

Shanghai Cafe

I discovered Shanghai in my college days 8 years ago when I was going through a “vegan phase”. It was cheap, it was fast, and it tasted freakin’ amazing! Well, nothing’s changed! Shanghai Cafe is still as awesome as it ever was! Shanghai is a casual place where you can find hipsters, families, hippies, college professors, and regular Salt Lake City locals just lookin for some good eats. Shanghai has a huge vegetarian/vegan friendly menu, awesome spring rolls, yummy tofu fried wontons, and some of the best triangle shaped chicken around! Make sure you try the Vegetarian Chicken and Lemon Grass or the Vegetarian Sweet and Sour Chicken with extra pineapples. Yum! Shanghai is located on 145 E 1300 South, just off of State Street. Also, check out the Shanghai Cafe Menu.

Bombay House

One of my favorite restaurants in Salt Lake City, Bombay House features some of the best Indian cuisine in the valley and is arguably Utah’s most authentic and outstanding ethnic restaurant! Bombay House has won Best of State Utah 2008, multiple Salt Lake Dining Awards, and the corporate Cuisine Award for Best Ethnic of 2009 by Utah Business Magazine. Not only does Bombay serve up some damn good food – but it’s also incredibly friendly for vegetarians. Veg-head friendly menu items include Vegetable Samosa, Vegetable Pakoras, Onion Bhaji (a must try!), Saag Shorba, and 17 entrees.  Bombay House is located on 2731 E Parley’s Way just West of Foothill. For more information, see Bombay House on Ski Town Restaurants.

Oasis Cafe

Looking for a place that serves not only the best breakfast in Salt Lake City, but is also an incredibly romantic dinner hot spot? Look no further than Oasis Cafe! Oasis Cafe is a hip and summery cafe/restaurant owned and operated by the LaSalle Restaurant Group who also own Faustina and Carvers Steak & Seafood. Oasis provides an incredibly comfortable and healthy balance of delicious recipes, culinary delights, and an airy atmosphere. My favorite menu items include their Cranberry/Walnut & Sourdough French Toast, Eggs Benedict Florentine, The Mediterranean Salad, Curry Vegetable Wrap, Grilled Brie Sandwich, and the Tomato & Garlic Angel Hair Pasta. Want some dessert? Try the Oasis Sampler Dessert Plate which includes a mini Creme Brulee, Vegan Chocolate Cake, and Lemon Cheesecake. I’m drooling just thinking about it! Oasis also has a great wine list and is a perfect spot to take a date! Hello cute boy from Coffee Garden! Oasis is located in downtown Salt Lake City on 151 South 500 East. For more information, check out Oasis Cafe on Ski Town Restaurants.

I love love love Sage’s. I do stints as a vegan and during that time this is the only restuarant I will go to. They make vegan food taste like real, filling food!

Bombay House might be the best Indian in Salt Lake, I’m just gonna put that out there.

Great article Casey, I suddenly have a craving for curry…
