On a quest to find good Indian Food in Salt Lake City, I stumbled upon Kathmandu.  My coworkers visit this restaurant in Salt Lake almost weekly and I finally ventured over with them one afternoon.  Although Kathmandu is technically Nepali cuisine, the flavors completely satisfied my craving for good Indian food.

Although I’m not a big buffet fan, the Kathmandu buffet is a great way to try several different dishes.  If you are new to Indian or Nepali food, you can learn what you like and don’t like. I’d never tried Nepali food before and I loved it as well as the Indian food that was served.  The butter chicken was especially tasty as were their lentils. The aromatic basmati rice was just as my Indian friend makes it and the Nepalese-style curry dish was perfectly creamy and spicy at the same time. As a finale to my grand lunch, I enjoyed some velvety rice pudding.

The owners are actually from Nepal and are passionate about the quality and ethnic accuracy of their food.  I always feel like I’ve stuck gold when I find good ethnic food in Salt Lake as well as high spirited restaurant owners.  The two seem to go hand in hand in my experiences.

My recommendation for you today, try the Kathmandu buffet ($9.65) and learn what Nepalese dishes you like, then come back for dinner. Kathmandu Restaurant is located on 3142 S Highland Dr.
